Do I have to buy the entire Toshiba power lead?

Options
Hi,
The power connection which connects my Toshiba laptop curves into the jack at the back of the laptop.

Wear and tear has meant that this part of the power cable, going from transformer to the laptop has failed. I suspect the wires within the connection have broken because with a bit of straightening and pushing together of the wire power can be seen to be restored.

I do not really want to buy a complete power cable, just the bit from the transformer to the lappy connection.

Is it possible just to buy this bit on it's own or will I have to buy the 3-pin plug plus transformer bit too?

This is the second failure of this bit so I've already bought one complete replacement power supply so I've got two at the moment.

Cheers

Steve

the power cable comes in two parts, the three-pin plug which goes into the wall, and then the transformer feeding into the laptop.

The three-pin plug costs almost nothing.

The transformer part otoh is expensive.

It sounds like you have broken the expensive bit.

You simply need to cut the lead where it has failed and get another Power Plug fitted e.g. here

The plugs are easy to change as suggested above. Just make sure you take a note or even better a photo of the wires and the connections before you start!

Same happened to mine, I got a brand new genuine toshiba one from ebay for £11.99, the seller was called just-unitech.

Its been fine, the original one had a straight connector type connector, this one is angled so the cable isnt gettin twisted back on itself now which i think is what caused the damage over time with the original one.

I just sliced ours open with a stanley knife, cut the cable back a bit and resoldered. A load of insulating tape to ensure there could be no shorting and it's lasted for ages. next time it breaks i'll put something at the plug like a biro tube/spring out of a pen over the cable to restrict the movement of it.
Total price to fix approx 5p
