Npower prepayment meters

Hello there,
I am on prepayments meters at the moment to repay a debt that we have with Npower. Though they have stated this was an error on their part, we of course are having to still pay.

Now on meters, our gas has been cut off and the emergency has been used. I contacted them (second time i might add) and finally got the repayment reduced, but they said they can't help, even though I told them that I have two children under the age of five. I was advised that they can't cut off gas or electric with children in the house, but they say they can.
Please can someone clear this up for me. I was advised and stated this to Npower, but they will not help us.

Thank you

    They have not cut you off, you have self disconnected which is another thing. You could ask them for a wind on, but this is subject to national grid acceptance and that you have not had them before. can you borrow something from your relatives?

  • Thank you for the reply. Yes we have and unfortunately they can not help. I just wanted to know if, what I mentioned, was correct {about having children under the age of five}
    I will also apologise for my lack of the correct terminology.

    For those on a PPM, if you don't pay for the energy, you won't be supplied it.

    If you are struggling to heat and light the property you live in, I suggest you pop over to the Debt Free Wannabe board, post your SoA, and I'm sure you will be given some good advice best to proceed. :)

    A longer term solution might be to approach the npower energy trust to see if they can help you clear your feet.

    How much are you paying to the bill each week? How big is the bill? How long will this take to clear the bill? (These are the things that will affect their decision to reduce the weekly payment or not.

    You can see if the meters match up with what they are telling you by looking at screens 25 (gas) and T (electricity)

    These days the lowest debt recovery rate (weekly amount) that they will set appears to be £3.50 per fuel which is what the DWP would allow if it was taken direct from benefits.

    If you have electric, then no as fan heaters / kettles can be used. However as stated its the discretion of national grid

    Its extremelely rare nowadays for anyone ( especially one with young children ) to be disconnected. They all mostly go down the prepay meter route to collect debt. The problem will be though when you put , say £10 credit on the meter, it will deduct the £3.50 debt and also repay the emergency credit so it may appear as if you are getting no or very little gas for your £10.You can check the ammount of debt on the gas meter by holding down the red button until it beeps, then scroll down to screen 24 by pressing red button, insert your card then go to screen 28, you can see the weekly repayment screen on I think, 27. Also the meter may also be collecting standing charge out of your ten quid. This will end for the quarter once the standing charge has been paid.
    Debt on the electric meter is viewable on screen "S", only viewable with key inserted
