PPI help

Hi thanks for reading.
I have a couple of Credit Cards, and a now fully paid off loan in my credit history. Three of the credit cards are still live.
I had a letter come through my door the other day from MBNA telling me my Payment Protection Insurance policy is changing.
The thing is, I didnt realise I had PPI!
Whats my next step please? I certainly want to see if I have a valid claim, and I dont exactly remember agreeing or not agreeing to having PPI. When the letter came through, I was suprised.
Also how do I go about checking the loan for PPI? (Bank of Scotland) I didn't need to use it if I did have it, just wondering, do I just write to these companies and ask them to provide me details or what do I do?
Many thanks for reading and any help given. Im not very good at all this stuff, so layman's terms would be appreciated!
Im self employed since 2007 for reference.

Hello there
For the fact that you did not know you had PPI, it may have been the case it was just applied to your account - without you realising at the time.
Also check the checklist below to see if anything else applies to you.
http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/reclaim/ppi-credit-card-insurance#step2
You do not actually need the paperwork to make a reclaim on the PPI, you simply just complete the reclaim complaint questionnaire below link, and send to the ones who were responsible for applying it to your account.
If the credit card accounts were all with the same business and you have the same reasons to make a reclaim, just enclose all account numbers that apply to the same reclaim complaint questionnaire.
Also keep copies in case you need to go back to it at some point.

If you are not certain if you were sold PPI, you could try contacting them, but usually the details of PPI are enclosed on the credit agreement, or monthly statements.
Another way is to optionally request for a Subject access request (SAR), where you send the letter template to request for all data on the account for the one off fee of £10 cheque or postal order.
Again if all with the same business, enclose all account numbers that apply, on one SAR, in order for them to track down the information.
They have up to 40 calendar days to comply.
Hope this helps, good luck.

thankyou!
Do you know how I find out if I have PPI on my other cards and the old loan?
Is it worth checking my mortgage? Or do mortgages not count?0 -

You could try by contacting the businesses directly.
Yes mortgage ppi is reclaimable if you believe you were mis sold, although these ones I usually leave for Dunstonh on here, who will advise further. The one and only "Dizzy Di"0 -
thanks, I will get on it straight away!0

Ok .....I didnt get on it straight away, but I am about getting round to it.
The card is a virgin credit card, whom I think use MBNA. Who do I contact? Im assuming Virgin (as its actually in their name) but just wanted to double check.
Thanks so much for all the replies!0 -
I do not see why PPI on your credit card was a surprise to you as it would have been on your statement every month.
As far as your mortgage is concerned, how would you keep up repayments if you could not work through illness or redundancy?0 -
they have never sent me a monthly statement. At best I get something once a year, a yearly roundup, which I think is a new thing they have to do, and its only on the recent one that I noticed I was paying £40ish a month in PPI. I've since had another letter through the door detailing just my PPI payment. I don't know why they are starting to send me stuff now rather than in the 4years roughly I've had the card....
virgin are excellent at sending me through the post spam mail. I get the same thing 4 times a month. Which they also email me. And they also send a generic "to the home owner" spam mail, just incase.0 -
