National Trust Membership cards

My son and his firlfirend would like to borrow my NT membership card. The card says Mr ***** Mrs**** Family.
Could they use it, or is it scanned and then my details would come up? His girlfriend and him are obviously not going to pass for a 40+ couple and they are both over 18 so could not be classed as 'Family'.
I've been a member for a few months and haven't got round to using it, so it is just sitting in my purse doing nothing.
Thanks

Yes, it's been scanned in most of the properties we've visited lately. Why do you want your son to use your card fraudulently anyway? The NT are a charity you know!0

Sounds like fraud to me.
These days they scan the barcode on the card which will presumably bring up your names and ages, so if there's a big discrepancy they'll no doubt spot it.
If you're not making proper use of your membership then that's your own business, but I think you should be encouraging your friends to support the NT properly themselves by actually putting their own hands into their pockets and paying up.0 -
Diddling a charity is not in the spirit of MSE.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0

From the NT website:Why is the National Trust scanning membership cards?
We are doing this largely to accurately count and analyse member visits. It also enables us to track and prevent fraudulent use of National Trust memberships. As a charity we rely heavily on membership subscriptions and admission fees to provide vital income to fund our conservation work.
I'm sure it says somewhere that only people named on the cards can use them.
Not all NT properties have the scanners, they've picked the top 100 to start.
But lending other people your cards is, imho, not in the spirit of things.0 -
They just scan the card, they dont "Look at a screen" to see ages, at least not the ones ive been to.
If you worried about a scam, have a go a the regular "NZ" scam thats regualarly posted on this site.0 -
My parents both work for the National Trust for Scotland, so I'd agree with the other posters and say please don't lend them your card, and ask them to pay for entry or join up themselves! It costs a lot to keep the properties going, so every little helps. I've seen plenty of people trying to get around paying to get in - please don't add to the numbers!0
