Not living in house... Can I cancel gas and electric

  • you can switch to BG no standing charge tariff for both gas and electric then you will only pay standing charge if you use energy also drain the water system down and turn water off. My next door neighbours pipes burst( in the well insulated loft ) two winters ago and it wrecked the house.

Provide the supplier with a meter reading, explain the property is currently unoccupied and ask for the monthly payments to be revised (and the huge credit that must have been accumulated be refunded)

or ask to pay quarterly on demand if you have already received you Direct debit discount. Make sure you are on a tariff with no standing charge, you should only need to pay £180 a quarter in the winter months when the boiler has to work a bit harder to keep the pipes warm
