American Express - No Account Number

Hi All,

Looking for some help here or maybe some inspiration!

I sent a SAR to American Express asking for all details they held on me. Unfortunately I do not have the account number for the credit card that I had with them. Cheque for £10 was included.

They replied back stating that I had not provided enough details. They were asking for the account number, DOB and address. Now address was on the SAR and I also provided my DOB. I also replied back stating that I did not have the account number. I did provide with a list of payments I had made to the CC from my current account and included my current account number and sort code the the dates that the payments were made.

I received a letter back from them yesterday stating that I still had not provided enough details and they required the account number. Are they coming it here? From the details I have provided should they be able to trace my account number? I should add that the lifespan of the card is beyond the six year limit I have read about.

My next planned course of action was to approach the bank I had the current account with at the time and show them the statement I had detailing a payment to American Express and see if they could tell me what account that was paid to - does anyone think this will work or can anyone provide any other avenues to follow?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Kenny

Do that. It's possible they've deleted your records if they're more than 6 years old.

  • Ok thanks for the reply. Will try this tomorrow and post the results here.
  • So phoned Lloyds TSB and they have told me that they do not hold the details of cards that payments were made too.

    Anybody with any other suggestions?

If you have online banking you can check your statements up to 10 years ago online.

  • Hi All,

Just an update. Checked my online account and unfortunately the entry for American Express was the same as I had in the printed version so no luck there.

    Any other ideas/suggestions warmly welcomed.
