unclaimed payment question

I won an auction on ebay on monday, a new seller with 0 feedback. I paid via paypal as requested in the auction but the payment showed as unclaimed by the seller. I presume this is because they haven't verified their paypal account yet. I waited all day and then received a message from the seller saying that they were now away on holiday for 8-9 days and i would have to wait until after that for them to post. I did inform them twice that they payment was unclaimed and needed sorting but it is still showing as unclaimed and hasn't left our account yet. Do i have any rights to cancel the transaction? I'm a bit worried they are going to mess me about.

  • The seller has probably misspelled, or has an old email address in the listing.

If you go into Paypal you can cancel the original payment from there.

Only the seller can sort this out, usually by sending you a Paypal invoice for goods, by linking the old/wrong address to their account, or by sending you a request to cancel the sale (if you both want to).

Hi, I am having a similar issue. I bought something from a seller and my payment is showing as unclaimed, and the seller doesn't know what to do. Seller has had 2 recent transactions in last few days, so can't see how/why there is a problem with mine :-( Does anybody know how to fix this please? Thanks

Two recent transactions from the same listing? If it is, then they have probably changed their email address and thought it would update live listings.

The way a seller can see what the email address is on the listing, is to go as if to re-list the item, scroll down and see what address is on there.
If you can see what the address is through Paypal, copy/paste and message them, see if its right.

Same applies though, nothing you can do, seller will have to send an invioce request for goods through Paypal. Cancel your original payment until the seller sorts it.

Thanks for your reply. I don't think I explained it very well. The seller has sold 2 other items in the past few days, and the payments for those items have gone to her with no problem. My payment is not going through and showing as unclaimed, I have cancelled and re-done it twice now and she's also sent an invoice, which I have paid - and yet it's still pending. The seller said she doesn't know what to do and that Paypal appears to give her no option to claim the funds

The invoice she sent will probably be through ebay, if it has the wrong address in the listing, then it will have the wrong address in the ebay invoice.

They can go into Paypal and on the Request Money Tab, send you a request for goods. Alternatively, if you can get their correct email address, go into Paypal - Send Money Tab - For Goods (make sure you put what its for and the item number).

The wrong address can be something simple, like a letter accidentally deleted/missed off when this was listed, or they put .com instead of .co.uk in this listing. Cancel your original payment first.
