Worth getting a wood kitchen worktop?

Hi, how much oiling to you have to do? before it's installaed and after. Do you get them as rectangles and use a jig saw to cut out for the sink etc?

    Thank you!:)

We're going for the fabrication service so won't be doing any cutting ourselves - we have a double butler sink in one length and require drainage grooves both sides so wouldn't be happy doing this, although our builder told DH he would help him (and DH is a very good DIYer), but with something like that I'd rather trust the pros to do it ;)

Worktop Express are supplying ours with three coats of oil already applied (although I think if you buy without using the fabrication service the worktops come unfinished - may be wrong though) and they recommend frequent oiling to begin with followed by regular re-oiling every three months.

Only prob we've found with Worktop Express is their inability to confirm just how quickly they can deliver if you opt for their 'express' service......

We have wood worktops. It looks like pine. I think they were fitted around thirty years ago and have lasted well.

When we refit the kitchen, we will definitely be going for wood again.

you have to oil them three times on all sides - so the back and bottom will need doing before installation.

After a couple of weeks I oiled them again. I will then oil mine every 6 weeks for a few months and then every 4 or so months.

the oiling is only a 2 min job, pretty much just as quick as wiping down worktops when cleaning.
