Scratches to mobility car.

Hi hope someone can help. I scratched my mobility car quite a lot of scratches does not look good, phones the insurers said would not have to make a claim as they would put it down to wear and tear but is up to me whether i make a claim or not! What is the best to do the door looks awful and does not look to presentable any help would be grateful as what to do! Thanks.

I did this by catching the side of the car on a car park pillar a few weeks into the contract.
I decided not to claim as it would cost the excess payment to repair and it was only cosmetic.
It's tricky to be without the car if it went into repair.
(WAV - courtesy cars are usually little hatchbacks)
It was noted on the 1st annual service report.
Might mean we lose the 'good condition ' bonus of course.
  • If it is only superficial scratches and not dents, I would contact a cosmetic car repairer - someone like ChipsAway (but not necessarily CA who I found are quite expensive).

My previous car was scraped in a car park by a girl who'd just passed her test. Luckily I was there to witness it. I got a quote from a local guy and the girl paid up in cash for the repair to the paintwork which was just £50. And she gave me a huge bunch of flowers for being so nice about it. Bless her.

Google "car chips and dents repairs" for your area. Chips Away will probably come up, but so will others. It's worth getting a quote.

Chips away can be hit n miss it depends on how good the franchise business is. Some scratches if not deep can polish out with a good quality polish like autgymn resin polish but these will only be superficial scratches not deep ingrained. I got my front wing resprayed last week for £130 due to a large egg sized dips on front wing, that wouldn't polish out so had whole wing redone. Some dealers have companies do work for them to get rid of small scratches on cars for them and customers

Thanks all for your replys but i decided to go through the insurers was just to many scratches and a dent to let it go as it is very noticeable and it does need repairing. Im having it done next week they will give me a courtesy car aswell. Thanks again for your replys.

My mobility car got reversed into, scratched by me and dented by ??, but that is all part of driving. Motability don't expect the car returned blemish-free, but if its very noticeable then I would get it repaired. The excess is only £75, which isn't too bad!

Just as a matter of interest, if you make no claims over your 3 year lease, then Motability reward you with a £250 cheque. I got a cheque with my last motability car.

  • if not too bad then try T cut,or you often see "scratch repair pens"advertised, they can be ok if its only surface damage

They have changed it now, it doesn't matter if you make insurance claims during the three year lease, you will still be eligible for the good condition bonus.

You both deserve applause for that, it warms my heart seeing actual common sense and general nicety winning the day. It's sad that it's such a rare thing these days. :(
  • Do not use chips away, way too expensive and not all that great in any case. Best advice is ring your supplying dealer, and speak to the Workshop controller/ manager as most dealers will use one of these companies for their selling of 2nd hand vehicles. Once you have the companies name and number then hey presto !!.
