hi all,
i have read hundreds and hundreds of pages on reclaiming back ppi but i am still confused.
i had quite a few loans about 10 years ago and about 8 years ago had a mortgage. problem is, i have none of the paperwork, cant even remember if i had ppi on them, and cant even remember who some of the loans were with (i was young and careless with money back then.)
i have tried the credit people to see if anything comes up on there but i cant seem to see any of my loans on there. i remember using equifax a few years ago and it had the lot on. i moved house 7 years ago.
any help would be greatly appreciated. shall i just get one of these companies to chase it all up? i know i will have to pay them if they succeed but i struggle for spare time.

Hi and welcome
If you bank with the same bank where you were paying the loan repayments, you may be lucky to find the details by either calling into the local branch who should be able to check the systems for you, or if you have online banking this may allow you to go back about 7ish years, maybe more or less, and details of any loan account numbers, lenders and the repayments should be enclosed on the statements.
If any of the finance were still active within the last 6 years, maybe you did not settle until this time, so you may be lucky to find some details.
Have you tried a further credit report with another credit organisation? for example experian?
The credit reports will show details of lenders, and usually the few digits of the account numbers.
To be honest, it will probably use more of your time using a claims company, as lots more is generally involved, paperwork after paperwork, checking signing then the long waiting!
Then if you do have a case and succeed after using a claims company - they will keep a good % of the refund.
So the simple way is as I suggested above, and as soon as you are aware of who the lenders are, you could just try ringing, emailing or if any of them were a local bank, then call in when passing by, to ask if you were paying insurance.
To send a subject access request (SAR) is another option, but may work out pretty expensive if there are many different lenders involved.
But..........
if the finance were taken out with the same business, one sar with the one off fee of £10 cheque or postal order will cover all.
A SAR will only generally hold data for the last 6 years, but again with some it maybe longer, for example, one of mine I received data going all the way back to the 90's, but it's not guaranteed for everyone.
They have up to 40 calendar days to comply and send all the information they still hold on you with a SAR.
If you cannot find any account number, give your full details of the old address, any name changes, also give your date of birth on the SAR letter.
If you decide to do this, the template letter is here.....

If you do find that you did have ppi and believe you have reasons to make a reclaim, below there are further details, and a reclaim questionnaire you use to make your complaint.
You send the completed questionnaire to the responsible business who set up your account.
Keep copies just in case you need to refer back to them again, good luck.

ive found from bank statements, 3 companies that i had loans with from 9 years ago.
can i simply email them and ask them if i was paying ppi or can they tell me to bog off?
2 of them have long numbers after the name (presumably account numbers or reference numbers), the other one has nothing other than the loan company name.
do you think its worth a try?0 -

Hi
That is a good start.
You can try by contacting them by giving them the details you do know, but failing that, you can if you want to do the SAR, although it would be easier and save you money if they can directly let you know without having to go as far as the SAR.
Statements can differ from one bank to the other, in my case, I can recall the lender's name, the account number etc, so they may be ref numbers of that account if not the loan numbers, and it's possible they can still track either way.
Good luck.:)The one and only "Dizzy Di"0 -
thanks again for your help.
so would you suggest i email the head offices of the 3 companies or write to them?
do i just give them the number on the bank statement and a brief letter or is there a specific template for that type of thing?
am i asking if i had ppi (because i really cant remember) or am i just asking for the details of the loans?
thanks again0
