Just typed a reply then it disappeared

flybynight I'm beginning to wonder who's bills we are charged for lol!!

Thanks we are greatful for any help/advice as really not happy with bills at all and can't financially keep up to this.

After the first quartly bill when we moved in we turned the radiators in utility room, wc etc off and checked all the other radiators thermostats. They are sitting at 2 maximum 3 on some and when possible in circumstances turn them down more! Keeping doors closed always. This doesn't seem to have made any difference.

    This is what heating was set to before: on between 10.00am & 11.00am, 3.00pm & 4.00pm, 5.30pm & 6.30pm and on between 8.00pm & 10.00pm.

Now it has changed recently to 12.00pm & 1.00pm, comes on at 9.30pm for half an hour (husband recently changed it to this), on between 12.00am & 1.00am, on between 4.00am & 5.00am and then on between 7.30am & 8.30am. Husband works eratic shifts so he was coming in from cold to a cold house plus one of our babies is up a lot during the night. There are days when I'm out all day and then at weekends (when husbands busy time) he's sleeping during the day and we are out all day doing stuff and visiting relatives...........infact my parents are asking if we've secretly moved in but my reply is it saves me putting on my heating lol!!

We were keeping daily meter readings but then when we thought it was the boiler we stopped but have started to check from today again.

People say its more economical to keep heating on 24/7 but this opinion seems to vary and I would terrified.

    Thanks

I am pretty sure they are wrong - maybe this was put out by the energy companies ? :)
It is more economical to heat a house when the heat is required than to heat it constantly 24/7. Yes it will use gas bringing it up to temperature but then it won't use gas maintaining that temperature for the many many hours it isn't needed...

Yes vuluzela probably lol they would have a field day with me then lol :)

I am at my wits end can't see any resolution in this apart from use no heating or hot water :( and we can't do that.

That's nonsense. You are in complete control. Keep turning down the radiators and/or the times until you feel uncomfortable and then ease off slightly.

The single control that you could make most use of is the heating temperature control on the boiler. Turn it right down for a day then increase slightly day by day if you feel you need warmer radiators.

Keep reading your consumption daily so that you can monitor the effectiveness of your economy drive.

jalexa sorry I meant that part in a joke/sarcastic way, I would never put it of sorry if I have been a little misleading.

Yeah thanks for the advice, I had also already turned the heating temp down on boiler, I have taken a few readings for today already and will continue with this.

    Thanks
