Hi Guys - Help needed (females most likely!)

Thought i'd call upon the collective minds of MSE Forum for help.

Looking to buy my long suffering girlfriend a mullberry bag and was wondering if anyone knows if you can get discount at all? Can find absolutely no codes online but thinking I might ask for discount at the store in selfridges? I am a student with an NUS card if that helps.

Just feels wrong spending that much on a bag, but she has wanted one for years but never been able to afford it so want to surprise her. I've recently come into money so can afford it 'on paper' but want to get it as cheap as possible out of principle.

Hope someone can help

Thanks

There's a mulberry outlet at Cheshire oaks - quite a good discount there! Check online and see if there are any out let places near by if your no where near Cheshire oaks :)

2nd Cheshire Oaks, although they don't have full selection. Think House of Fraser do a 10% student discount.

Make sure you know which type is the bag she's longing for!
  • I'm not a million miles from bicester village outlet store. however i've been there before and it wasn't brilliant. all seemed the the random bags that never sold. horrible colours etc.

I've heard good things about Cheshire oaks, but going would wipe out any saving I make from the cost of getting there and back I suspect. I'm not far from london. Will check out HoF

Please, please, whatever you do - do NOT google search and buy from some dodgy website. Will most likely be fake and your poor girlfriend will be so disappointed.

On a side note, Mulberry have just released their figures and they suffered an absolutely monumental loss recently - perhaps a sign that their exclusivity is decreasing. Have you actually heard her talking about this brand or have you picked it yourself?

No I'd never buy from one of those moody sites.

She always says when she gets a payrise etc she will save up for a mullberry bag. I know that there are plenty of fakes around but she'll know it's legit as I'd never buy a fake.

Even if I got 10/15% I'd be happy. To at least feel like I've got a 'deal' despite the ridiculous cost.

The one I think she'll like is just shy of £900

Mulberry themselves don't often discount, I know that much. Whether the individual store (i.e Selfridges) would offer a discount and allow it to be used by Mulberry, I don't know.

To play Devil's Advocate here, if the idea of spending that much money sits uneasy with you - are you sure you should do it? I'm not sure what age you are, but talk of a 'pay rise' makes me think quite young? When I was younger I swore I'd save up for a Chloe bag when I got my first 'real salary' pay. And did I? Did I heck! I decided spending that much on a bag was bloody stupid in the end.

Had someone else bought it for me though... well, it would have been a different story...!!

  • I earn a decent wage, hers is reasonable but she's an entry level teacher so couldn't afford the bag she wanted.

I got her some Laboutine shoes a few years ago and she still treasures them to this day. she was on cloud 9 for months after, so hoping this bag has the same effect. Don't see the appeal myself but never did understand you women fully. What man does though? :p

Don't buy it just yet because you get 10% off in a sale or something, it's better to wait until you have enough time to return it unless you're 100% sure on which one she wants. Better to buy full price than waste £900 on a bag that can't be returned if it isn't the one she wants.

Also, it's worth noting that John Lewis will often 'respond to a competitor's promotion' (generally House of Fraser) so often discount on luxury goods because of their price promise. Plus they're decent on returns.
