Private Health care for few months for op

Would it be possible to take private health care for a few months have an op, then cancel it.
I know that when i see my GP I will need to have an op, but haven't been as I've wondered whether it would be possible to do it this way. Can I cancel private health care within the year if I have used it?
There is nothing either good or bad but thinking makes it so.

All policies vary, but many do have a one year minimum contract (though not all).

Also, most will not cover conditions that appear within the first three months of cover, particularly if these are pre existing (or could have been pre existing).
    Gone ... or have I?

A new policy will not cover pre-existing conditions so this is unlikely to work.

This is because they want to stop the practise that you are suggesting which is essentially taking advanatge.
