New Garden

  • Thanks for the replies.

Everything is now on hold as I have sent an email to the delevopers (countryside properties) service team that are building on the estate.

I went to the house today (havent moved in yet but completed about a month ago) and the garden is full of puddles and boggy areas.

There is also an inspection chamber in the middle of the garden that is 3/4 full of water, I have also advised them about this as I am unsure what it is for.

Hopefully they will send someone to have a look at it all, because it looks as though there is very little drainage in the garden.

If I run sleepers around the patio and side path I could potentially get 10 inches of soil above the concrete, but it is a pointless task if the water is just going to sit there under the surface.

The house is built on old agricultural land, I was unable to see any old building on google maps (it still shows farmland) but that isnt to say there used to be some.

Have attached a photo (looks strange as i took it in panaramic mode). the puddle in the far right corner is sitting ontop of the concrete we have exposed.

  • thought I would follow this up as I finished the garden yesterday.

Imported 13 tonnes of topsoil and raised 90% of the garden, before and after pic below.

That does look really good, well done.

Is that a drain cover? If so I would consider a recessed manhole cover, that you could fill, about 30 - 35'ish delievered on ebay. I know its added expense but it really would make a difference IMO.

    Thanks,

Yes its a cover for an inspection chamber, I was going to put a pot on it, but if it can be hidden and blended in that would be better.

What a brilliant job. That must have been a lot of hard work, but a fabulous result.
