Is it safe to click on any popup purporting to be from your AV?

We all know anything can be copied, so any malicious popup could be disguised as, say, a message from your antivirus provider. The pop-up I reproduce here is so unusually large as to allay suspicion, but then I wondered if reverse psychology might be in play! I'm on XP BTW, so don't need a W8 version.

I have Avast free version. I see its user interface has an offer to upgrade to its full Security Suite at 40% off, which I hadn't seen before. Is that familiar to you?

I've seen something like this before (can't say it's exactly the same) when Avast has updated the AV engine rather than just the definitions.
Clicked finish without any harmful effects.:)

Update
After posting I looked at Avast and it said that there was an update available. So I did a manual update which required a reboot of XP
After reboot a got the same large avast window, but it had a panel in asking to "help us grow Avast" with links to social network sites.
You should be OK

Just updated Avast on Win 7 and got the same panel as Dave.0
