My advice when returning something without the receipt (even if this is common sense, and I have lots of that normally :( ): never enter without having the security guard witness what you bring with you!!!! Because a conjugation of very unlikely things may happen and you will be caught in a nightmare, where only your word may not be enough, even if you tell them to check your past purchases for those items. I now finally understand what some people in this forum have been through, because so far I was always happy with the service and everyone was more than happy to help.

Thinking over the situation, I think I know what happened: in step 2 I place my little bag and things on the counter of the SA since I wanted to do the refund there. As I wait with the security guard for the team manager to retrace my steps, lots of people are beeping as they pass security and the guard checks their reciepts. I see the SA from step 2 smiling apologetically and saying her "something" is not working so the products are not having the alarm removed. If anyone is reading this and has any idea of how security works at a boots, please confirm this for me: my guess is the counter can place the security on the items and remove it, so it is possible for it not to be working properly (ie not removing security) and to be adding alarm to the items placed on it? this would explain what happened...

I was extremely traumatized by this and I think I will stick to online shopping for now... Much better without the uncertainty of the human element. And I will never again return anything without a receipt regardless of the rules that state you can.

----> Short version of this long post: never enter without having the security guard witness what you bring with you if you don't have a receipt.

PS: I know this is not "Grabbit while you can", but I really needed to share this story with someone... I won't tell any of my friends or OH since everyone thinks I spend too much time in boots already and I really don't feel like hearing "I told you so...". Sorry.

I was advised by head office cs that if you want to return something without a receipt call the store and speak to the manager/assistant manager prior to going to store. If you then have any problems the manager/assistant manager can vouch for you as they already know you are bringing the items in and also it is now at the managers discretion as to whether you get a refund to a gift card, the cs told me that it used to be standard procedure but now it is managers decision.....maybe phoning beforehand would also mean you can arrange this rather than an exchange. How awful, you would think that the sales assistant that dealt with you would confirm you attempted a return.

My parenting vouchers never arrived from ebay so will need to wait till the weekend to try them.

I'd like the no7 Calming serum but think thats one of the things that it doesn't work with.
    Can anyone advise?
What would happen if I attempted 342 with that as 1 item and maybe 2 make-up items??????
    Using parenting voucher?

Has anyone had any P+P orders reduced or cancelled??

Seems like the ebay bubble has burst:rolleyes:

    .................
.............4- I give up, and since I was passing by another boots store to check on the P+P wrinkle serum I decide to leave. As i pass the door I start beeping  I immediately realise what will happen: 2 items that beep, no receipts. I panic completely:eek: . I try to explain what happened to the security guard (as I explained above) and to cut a long story short they gave me the benefit of the doubt after much discussion. I was horrified by what happened. and it was so difficult for me, a non-native speaker, to talk to 2 other non.native speakers - the security guard and the team manager (who finally showed up!). And all the SAs I had talked to were extremely unpleasant. The experience was dreadful and ultimately it was my fault and the team manager was incredibly understanding.

I have had a similar thing happen, and its not pleasant!! I bought something that had one of the thin white security tags stuck onto it, and it obviously wasnt scanned (or deactivated, or decoded or whatever it is they do to them!!) correctly as it set the alarm off when I walked out. The Security Guard was great, said that it had happened a few times that day, and obviously I did have a receipt, so he let me on my way. But the problem came later.....as whenever I walked into or out of a shop I set the alarm off! I was in a big shopping centre and had intended to go into quite a few shops for a rummage around the sales, but after having to explain myself at HMV, Monsoon and a health food shop (if I remember rightly) I gave up and went home!! :o

I do hope your experience doesnt put you off Bootsing hun....I know it is a nightmare when these things happen, but thankfully they dont happen TOO often ;)

P.S, for a non-native speaker your writing is far better than that of a lot of people who were born and raised with English as a first language :rotfl:

  • the sancturary facial wash is lovely for your skin and works with the 3 pound off voucher from magazine. got the five pound voucher today for ten pound spend and will try this with the three pound one tomorrow so i can hopefully get the facial wash for free instead of 5.95.
also loads of reduced hair accessories in bristol galleries boots today. usuallty really expensive and now from 50p instead of 6 pounds or so.
:j I sometimes give myself admirable advice, but am incapable of taking it.
  • Went to Boots today to get the 17 Fairybag, and the advantage machine kindly gave me a £1 off 17 Nail Varnishes, so picked up a £2.99 Nail Varnish and a £2.99 Eye shadow, handed them to the checkout lady and the free bag, then gave her £1 off voucher.

Bingo, Spent £4.99 and get free bag

Its a cute little clip purse, contains a half size glitter nail varnish top coat, a grey glitter eye shadow and a nail file, plus a £1 off a £5 spend on 17.

Wonder if I want anymore bags

Thanks everyone for the "hugs" (without the weird smilie hug, of course!!! :p ). The tip about phoning ahead is great, though I think I won't be returning anything ever again at Boots... As for this putting me off bootsing, it won't, I may not go to another boots store in the near future, but I will definitely be "bootsing.com"!!

And back from my kafkaesque nightmare, I wonder:
When will the 17 offer appear online? and when will there be new codes for online purchases?

This has been on their web site i=since tuesday but I think they are bluffing as I ordered my items and they arrived today. I dont know if you can still put the items in the basket but as far as i know no existing orders have been cancelled.
I must also add I REALLY HATE the boots delivery system- it takes too long ,its not trackable ,it easily goes misssing and if you pay extra for delivery if it doesnt turn up boots are hopeless. With their free delivery items are sent standard post despite being of loads of value . Definately always puts me off ordering from them , its like russian roulette you never know if your going to get it or when !
