Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
    Hi, everyone,
you've helped me with my shopping so I decided to share this experience with you and leave a big warning, even though I am still pretty shaken by what happened (I may be good psycanalysis to share what happened).
Yesterday I went to picadilly circus london shop to return one product with receipt and exchange 2 without receipt (I merely wanted to exhange for something in the same range or get the money onto a gift card). The unimaginable happened.

1- I did not beep going in. I did not show the items to the security guard because he was busy, I even waited behind him for his attention, gave up and turned to the ACM to collect points and vouchers (only one - points spend- by the way and it came under a different name... the kafka storyline starts!!).

2- Went to a SA to inquiry about returning the items . she said to go downstairs to pharmacy as the SA there were the only ones to do returns.

3- Long queue there, got to return the item with receipt (points deleted by my suggestion) and told to look for team manager for return without receipt. Upstairs, downstairs, upstairs and an SA takes me to photography to do the return. to no avail. have to look for team manager.

4- I give up, and since I was passing by another boots store to check on the P+P wrinkle serum I decide to leave. As i pass the door I start beeping  I immediately realise what will happen: 2 items that beep, no receipts. I panic completely:eek: . I try to explain what happened to the security guard (as I explained above) and to cut a long story short they gave me the benefit of the doubt after much discussion. I was horrified by what happened. and it was so difficult for me, a non-native speaker, to talk to 2 other non.native speakers - the security guard and the team manager (who finally showed up!). And all the SAs I had talked to were extremely unpleasant. The experience was dreadful and ultimately it was my fault and the team manager was incredibly understanding.

My advice when returning something without the receipt (even if this is common sense, and I have lots of that normally :( ): never enter without having the security guard witness what you bring with you!!!! Because a conjugation of very unlikely things may happen and you will be caught in a nightmare, where only your word may not be enough, even if you tell them to check your past purchases for those items. I now finally understand what some people in this forum have been through, because so far I was always happy with the service and everyone was more than happy to help.

Thinking over the situation, I think I know what happened: in step 2 I place my little bag and things on the counter of the SA since I wanted to do the refund there. As I wait with the security guard for the team manager to retrace my steps, lots of people are beeping as they pass security and the guard checks their reciepts. I see the SA from step 2 smiling apologetically and saying her "something" is not working so the products are not having the alarm removed. If anyone is reading this and has any idea of how security works at a boots, please confirm this for me: my guess is the counter can place the security on the items and remove it, so it is possible for it not to be working properly (ie not removing security) and to be adding alarm to the items placed on it? this would explain what happened...

I was extremely traumatized by this and I think I will stick to online shopping for now... Much better without the uncertainty of the human element. And I will never again return anything without a receipt regardless of the rules that state you can.

----> Short version of this long post: never enter without having the security guard witness what you bring with you if you don't have a receipt.

PS: I know this is not "Grabbit while you can", but I really needed to share this story with someone... I won't tell any of my friends or OH since everyone thinks I spend too much time in boots already and I really don't feel like hearing "I told you so...". Sorry.

I managed to get the straightening kit with the parenting and the mag. He had to manually put one in as cash though. Once he had done this I then gave him the other with a few other wee ones.
I am too chicken to use this kit now!!

Managed to get a no 7 mirror - just trying to pluck up the courage to look in it. So it will have to stay in its box for at least a few day till I am brave enough to do so.

Still lots of reduced no 7 sun stuff around which will work with the new skincare voucher. I just can't face any more - boot sale or no boot sale.

experiences that that are not nice at all and I feel for you. Can't really say why you bleeped?? But do not let it put you off !!

I bleeped once when returning an item of clothing to tesco - a different store to where I bought it. So where I bought it must have had the alarms off when I bought it and naturally I bleeped upon going into a store with alarms on!!! They had left the tags on the sleeve!!! Luckly I had the receipt otherwise I don't know what whould have happened.

Well I don't know if it has been confirmed yet but the magazine voucher for £3 and the £5 skin voucher do go through together when you buy a Sanctuary product.:j
I had a lovely sa in the pharmacy dept who said I doubt it'll work but I'll try anyway. She was very pleased for me when it did work. I know for a fact she has a couple of daughters so I expect she will use the deal herself, lol.

I am sorry this happened to you, it is horrible, I had an incident in boots about 3 years ago but it still haunts me. I was looking at the baby clothes with a pregnant friend, but we didnt buy anything, as we left the store the alarms went off but as we didnt have anything on us we asumed it was a fault and kept walking, the next thing was that a security gurd grabbed me and demanded I went back in to the store, it turned out that a hanger had got caught up in the belt loop on the back of my jeans and I had walked out with an outfit for 15 pound with out knowing it, Eventually they let me go because I looked so surprised they said they had to believe that I didnt do it on purpose. What I dont get is if I was going to steal something (which I wouldnt) I would have hidden it rather that hang it obviously from my jeans, How embarrassing:confused::o:o
