help with car insurance quote

hi,
my car insurance is up for renewal very soon.
my current insurers renewal quote was poor,
however I'm due to move home on the date my insurance is due,
so put the new address details in a comparison site and came up ok,
i informed my current insurers and they were still a way off in price with my new details.
however when i went to purchase the cheaper quote it wont allow me?
called up and they could only guess and say I'm un-insurable?
they said my bank details had nothing to do with it (i asked with it being different addresses)
i did do another quote with my current address and the price went up a fair bit, but not sure if it would process with actually committing to buy.

i had no claims to declare and 2 yrs ncd?

I presume you used a comparison website and gave you a quote that it should not have?

For that address/car/age or no claims etc Wont allow you because the other policy is still running and you cannot use the no claims because its in use?

not sure if i understand that?
i can't be expected to wait for 1 policy to expire before taking out a new 1 surely?
i put in start dates for when my current insurance expires, and updated my proposed new address.
twice it got rejected when it came to paying, be it in full or monthly, neither company knew why, and there is nothing wrong with my payment details as in insufficient funds.
i revised my quote using my current address, which is the family home and its fine?

I'm no snob by any stretch, but the new area is much better than my current, which did show up in the quote difference,
i can only assume its something to do with the new address blacklisted or something?
  • Addresses aren't blacklisted, only people are. Insurance is only available 1 month in advance so it might be that. I don't think the "vehicle normally resides at" address and billing address have to be the same but maybe the contact and billing ones do. Will your existing company roll on your cover for a week or month until you move?

No, not just addresses, but whole postcodes get blacklisted.

And you can find big name companies who will sell you a policy earlier than a month in advance.

Eg. Aviva 2 months, morethan 45 days.

    Thanks for replies,
My insurance was due very soon, days rather than weeks,
I left it late waiting for confirmation of me moving,
I have now insured myself at my current address due to a hiccup in my move, funnily enough with an insurer who refused me?
But I will still have a problem when I do move next month!
I can't understand why, at a guess I'd say I'm moving to a better area, crime wise anyway

If they dont cover the new postcode then yes they may cancel the policy.

    Maybe a costly mistake.

Better area crimewise. But maybe an area with 100% insurance claim rate.

I know my company wont cover ANY Manchester or Oldham postcodes.

can you explain the postcode? its only 2 miles up the road, if that, same first 4 bits of the postcode as current!
my current insurers "would" insure me at the new address, but £200+ more than quoted elsewhere.
another Q is if i chose to not amend my change?
it is the family home, my bank details have stayed there for years even when not being my fixed abode, although i did/do stay there quite often when i was living elsewhere.

Insurers ask where the car is kept.

So if you lie about that then expect them to void the policy in the event of any claim.
