Domestic & General Boiler Insurance.

Here's the problem, Mom & Dad's boiler sprang a leak DOMGEN Engineer came out to have a look and said the part was obsolete, he said he would let them know and they would get back in touch with parents (parents both in their 80's)...they didn't so after several days of waiting parents phone DOMGEN, they say they have 2 options

Option 1 have survey engineer to come out and and give a quote to parents on the installation cost of fitting a new boiler as the boiler they will pay for, but the fitting is not covered. (Don't know price yet)

Option 2 claim a lump sum from insurance to pay towards parents organising a new boiler and fitting.

2 problems with these options are:-

1. The new boiler does not come with a warranty this is part of the agreement of DOMGEN supplying the new boiler which makes me a little concerned that it may not actually be a 'new boiler'.

2. Parents policy is up-to £1500 per claim period now they have had two call-outs in this yearly period one was to replace a clock at the front of the boiler and the engineer was there for app. 30 mins and secondly was the leak that caused the breakdown the engineer could not fix and was there app 1hr 30 mins. They owe app. £100 towards the total of the premium and according to DOMGEN all they can offer as a lump sum is £226.00. Now my maths isnt great but this means the two call-outs have costed around £1100.00 that to me seems rather extortionate, and when i asked DOMGEN for the breakdown of the labour they said they didn't have it!!! LOL.

Any help or ideas as to what would be the best way forward would be greatly appreciated?!
Thanks in advance!!

  • Hi samsung77,

I am in a similar situation as you with domestic and general.my boiler has been deemed uneconomic to repair so am now waiting to hear what D & G will offer me.

Am very interested to hear what your outcome is.

Hope your parents are ok and everything resolved soon

  • Option 1 -I have been offered £299 by D and G even though policy like yours is up to £1500. I had one proper call out in that time for 30 minutes. As it was not repaired i had another engineer visit but he did nothing apart from say the part that is needed seems to be obsolete.

Option 2- like you i have been offered a boiler but they would not say if it would be new and could not say what model and but did say a warranty would not be included which worries me. Also I would have to pay approximately £800 labor costs. They are coming next week to do a "free survey"

please can other people share their experiences with Domestic and General when their boiler is deemed "beyond economic repair"
