Hi, I have specified a watch on my home insurance. The insurance company has requested a current valuation for it (must be no older than 3 years). We bought the watch just over that. To get a valuation from a jewellers would be £55. Is there a cheaper way?? :j

That is a fairly cheap price.... many valuations are based on a percentage of value with a floor of around that sort of thing. Works out good if you have a lot of items and they turn out to be paste but not good for genuine items.
Is the watch still made? What sort of value do you think its worth? Assuming it is still made then just the RRP for the item would be the valuation (eg a link to the brands boutique website - assuming it has one)0 -
I saw one company that does online valuations for £8 - I'm not going to provide a link as I have no idea if they are any good.
Some jewellers do valuation days but not likely to get one at this time of year with christmas approaching. Maybe in the new year when they want people in the doors.
Have you asked the jeweller you got it from if they will do you a favour.
As II says, if its a current model then a valuation shouldn't be necessary but check this with your insurer.0
