Unemployment Insurance Question

Hiya
We currently have life insurance with a payout of 90k and also have mortgage protection (with halifax) which includes unemployment. We are considering moving to another company who we have our life insurance with as they are great but the policy they offer doesnt have unemployment cover. Now I (sometimes unfortunately :rotfl: ) have no chance of being made redundant (I know never say never) and to be honest hubby doesnt really either but he is more likely and wants unemployment insurance which is fine. Now I have found the unemployment with a sperate company for not too much and all works out at less than what we paid with halifax. They are asking for monthly cover in £'s we require. Now does this need to be the cost of the mortgage (which our other insurances cover for), his monthly wage or whatever figure we want? I was unsure on how this worked!
Thanks!

Ongoing thread on M&E folks.
As that one already has replies, suggest we continue with that, unless OP wants to continue here?
