Domestic Standard & Restricted Hours A

Hi there,

I am currently on the "Domestic Standard & Restricted Hours A" tariff from Scottish Hydro Electric.

I have two completely seperate meters in my house, one linked up to storage radiators, and one for everything else.

From what I gather this is an unusual arrangement, and I am finding it very hard to compare tariffs online because almost every website just assumes you have one meter.

When I go to put in my monthly useage totals they don't give a fair result, as I use about 80% of my units on heating, and only 20% on everything else, and they are currently charged at different rates.

Does anyone know how I can find the best tariff?

Any advice/tips are most welcome.

  • So that's it, there is no shopping around? There is no choice?

I bought the house a couple of years ago, it was constructed in the 1970s, when I think more homes had two seperate meters.

I guess I just grin and bear the price rises :-(

for the very reasons given by YoYoY that "it invariably ends in tears" a forum is not the best place IMHO with what is best left to good quality one to one advice ie a conversation where you can understand the others persons level of understanding etc.

I've seen errors during the transfer process because of SSE's incorrectly coded MPAN's, issues with E.ons RTF billing not being applied when it should, kwh usage errors and then you have to double check everything including the new billing as from time to time it also does require an adjustment.

Thanks for suggesting it but somethings might be misconstrued - and reading the posts on related meters on MSE it's an amalgam of a minefield of poor information alongside sound advice.

Any info is always useful on here from someone with experience.

THTC can be supported by other suppliers, I know Npower have customers in HYDE on it.

The problem is that whilst every supplier has to be able to register every possible meter combination, they are being allowed to reject business or hold customers to ransom over meter changes because they don't want the hassle.

Ofgem need to answer to this so the OP should obtain advice from Ofgem's Consumer Affairs Team.

Whilst I'm sure you are trying to help, it could be misconstrued or treated with suspicious since you could be a sales person or a team looking for them.

  • I am new to MSE so please forgive me if I am asking silly questions. Someone responded to a post from "Offpeak" but I don't see that post in the thread? Was it deleted?

I don't know if additional information will help anyone to give me a simple answer. The technical jargon goes over my head to be honest. Basically I just wanted to know if there were any other tariffs available for homeowners with two meters?

The house is detatched, two bedrooms. No mains gas, electricity only. Storage radiators throughout. Total bills annually are £1200-1300.

    Presumably.

Which of the responses that have been allowed to remain do you not understand?
  • I don't know what the following stand for:

    MPAN's

    RTF billing

    THTC

    HYDE

Which previous response includes the terms MPAN's or RTF billing?

For the other two, Google is your friend ;)
  • MPAN's - Meter Point Administration Number

    RTF - Rich Text Format

THTC - Total Heating Total Control

HYDE - The place? Written all in capital letters?

From the feedback I have got on here I think I will just sit tight and do nothing. Thanks for all your input everyone, much appreciated.
