Some people do not recognise a dog with no pedigree papers as a proper breed ;)

I think putting a GSD down as a crossbreed on insurance simply because it has no papers would be very rocky ground to be honest, and close to, if not going into, fraud. I have never been asked to produce papers for Casper to prove he is a purebred GSD but his adoption papers say so, his rescue believes so, his vet records say so, and he looks purebred (I think I could probably argue he was a Golden Retriever cross with someone who didn't know much about white/champagne GSDs, maybe, but his physical build is very much that of a GSD) so I wouldn't take the chance of insuring him as a crossbreed at all. I know a few people have fallen foul to calling lurchers "crossbreeds" if the insurance company offer lurcher as a choice, and a lurcher is never going to come with pedigree papers!

If the insurance company specifically asked for papered or not papered, fair enough, but the question has been raised on many forums from the looks of a quick Google, and the general consensus that pedigree is a term for purebred, not papered. Even the dictionary definition can just mean purebred.

    ped·i·gree/ˈpedəˌgrē/

    Noun:
    • The record of descent of an animal, showing it to be purebred.
    • A purebred animal.

Oh I never meant anything about fraud.. it is that let's say "few people" kept on mentioning to me that MY dog is not as good as their dogs as their dogs were proper pedigree....if you know what I mean... So when I was taking up insurance I was bit confused but said she is a GS with no papers :)

Some people think cats are better than dogs but I wouldn't register my dogs as Bengals when getting insurance though :rotfl:

BTW - in poland white GS is a separate, recognised breed, called White Switzerland Shepherd (kind of translates this way)

Some puppies to droll over :)

Poor Casper would be frowned upon for his ginger tinge, and then disqualified for his pink nose, poor boy! Good job I love 'im!
