Your allowed a maximum of 3 searches with in a 6 month period. So if you only have one you search after Nationwide, you could apply for another but not guaranteed acceptance.

You are allowed as many searches as you like, whenever you like.
It is generally recommended that people try to not exceed 3-4 credit searches in a rolling 6month period, as more than that may affect lending decisions by potential lenders.

Yes you are, the op could apply for 30 credit cards with 30 searches - but the 3 search rule with in a 6 month period is what creditors like to see and is more likely to be accepted than having 30 searches where the provider will be an instant decline. So what you are saying is somewhat misleading with 'you are allowed as many searches as you like', with what I am suggesting is a guidance rule.

Its not a 'rule', and its not 'not allowed'. People might read post #6 and your signature and assume that they are 'not allowed' to have more than 3 searches.

I think your post #6 is misleading. Mine is not, provided you read both sentances in post #12, not just the first one.

Its a recommendation or guidance about the number of searches, and best explained as such for people reading (not just the OP but lurkers as well).

One the whole how many searches are you allowed debate, I find that the third search in any 6 month period will at least trigger a referral, i.e. will prevent an instant decision, but won't necessarily fail an application.

For example, I have been accepted for 4 cards in 3 months (3 balance transfers and an Amex), the first 2 were instant yes decisions, the second two were both referred and then accepted.

If you want to be successful for an instant decision acceptance - keep searches to a minimum i.e. 3 or less in a 6 month period. Period!

If you want to improve your chances of being successful for an instant decision acceptance - keep searches to a minimum i.e. 3 or less in a 6 month period.

I've personally been accepted for 5 credit agreements in 4months all instant decision, I very much doubt I am the only one.
