Relationship break-up & nowhere to go

I'll keep this short.........ish! My girlfriend handed noice in on our rented accomodation on Tuesday (she told me what she intended to do on Monday!!). I've since found out that I'm unable to move back home as there is no room for me unless I want to share the box room with a 6 year old, which isn't appropriate in my eyes.
Of course friends have offered me a sofa to sleep on for the odd night, but that isn't an answer to my problem as I have all my stuff to move. What are my options? I have a good job but am in an IVA, which means half my wages goes on that every month. I have maybe £350-£400 I could spend on accomodation, I thought about easyroomate.co.uk or something like that, but at the minute I'm just trying to get my head round the situation and work out what my options are.
Any advice is much appreciated.

any chance of phoning up your (old) landlord and getting a new tenancy agreement redone in your name? it will save you having to move and will save the landlord the hassle of finding a new tenantproper prior planning prevents !!!!!! poor performance!Only when the last tree has died and the last river been poisoned and the last fish been caught will we realise we cannot eat moneyquote from an american indian.0

Not an option, I can't afford to keep the place on my own and I can't get anyone to move in. I'm still hoping the girlfriend will recosider and ring the letting agent up to say she wants to stay. She said she'll consider putting it off for a month so I guess that's a start!!0

House shares aren't so bad, and depending on the city/town cost anywhere between £200 - £500 (+ bills) for a double room. Easy room mate isn't great because it requires one of you to pay for the subscription, so I'd look on https://www.gumtree.com and see if they have a section for your area (right hand column).Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
Where are you? I was recently in a similar situation. There were loads of rooms immediatly avalible in house shares. Fine as a temp solution and a good way to meet new people after a splitwe have love enough to light the streets.0

Try gumtree.com which always has loads of ads for flat/house shares at good rates. there are sites for lots of UK towns/cities. Sure you will find something there. If you are desperate you can get individual rooms at youth hostels for about £15 a night while you fix yourself up with something more permanent on from gumtree.Onwards and upwards!0

was going to recommend gumtree.com too... always loads of rooms to let on there and you can search by price.
I am based in london and our housemate pays £411 all inc. for a single room.. and the rest of our house is really spacious and we have garden etc... so it can be done without slumming it. Plus houseshares are great socially when you do feel like you wanna get back out in the world after a break-up...
good luck.0 -
I used spareroom.co.uk when I was looking for a lodger. I didn't have to pay and I don't think my lodger did either.0

When I split up with an Ex, I was going to move into a room in a house as a lodger, I mentioned it to someone I work with, who then offered me a room in his house as he already had one lodger and another was financially good for him. It was great as we all travelled into work together and go via the pub on the way home. It was nice to have the independence of a single, but knowing the people I was living with was a comfort too!
So, it might be worth asking around at work!

Thanks for all the replies people. Only just got home to get some more stuff, why is it always the guy that has to move out!! On going to look into Gumtree and Spareroom. The ex has said she may keep it going for another month so I can get myself a bit more sorted as 3 weeks is not enough time for me to relocate my life!
Thanks again everyone!0
