Washing baby's toys before first use?

I've never washed a toy before tbh, just as others have said teething toys for young babies etc

Although now with dd3 having horrendous asthma/chest infections everything is steamed regularly and her teddy put in the freezer!

I never understand why people still sterilise baby's bottles at 1+ when their child has just crawled all over the floor putting everything in their mouth

Washing lego...... I was selling some on eBay so I put it in a pillowcase and tied a knot in it and then stuck it in the washing machine, LOL.

Didn't want bad feedback for selling grubby lego you see!!

I had some old greasy lego (it had been mine as a kid!) and I used some of the sterilizer tablets for cleaning bottles to give it a soak - it came up squeaky clean.

I wiped second-hand toys down with anti-bacterial wipes, mainly because I find the thought of other people's babies sick really icky.

I was quite surprised to see my God daughter washing her newborn's brand new clothes but each to their own and her washing skills are probably better than mine :D I didn't do that but then again they were all second hand too so they'd been in the washing machine anyway.

How many people wash their hands between handling money and their baby, baby's toys and baby's food?

I do. I know I can't (and probably shouldn't) stop baby coming in contact with all germs everywhere ever but the amount of filth that must be on money is a bit too gross for me. I've had a few funny looks when I whip out the baby wipes or alcohol gel when out and about with her but it keeps me happy lol.

It really isn't good for your LO to sanitise everything.

I used to wipe over stuff from the boot fair or charity shop but I've never cleaned new toys. Chance would be a fine thing, once a toy is out of the box, the kids grubby little hands are snatching at it anyway!

I remember washing (and ironing!) all of my son's brand new babygrows and vests before he was born. And saying to DH..."Oh, I can't wait to be washing all these things every week"
The novelty of that soon wore off!! :rotfl:

    And I suppose that's why I wrote "and probably shouldn't". ;)
