PPI Claim Nationwide

Hi,

I applied to Nationwide building society to reclaim PPI as I had a mortgage with them from 2005 to 2010. However when I wrote in to reclaim PPI they said they had no record of the account and were closing the case on the matter.

I do have my mortgage account number and all the PPI documents explaining what it is and what's covered. When I went back into the branch they said to photocopy proof of the PPI and send it back to Nationwide.

I can't find any reference to PPI on my mortgage statement and i'm assuming all mortgages at the time would come with PPI.

Does anyone know what should it show as on the mortgage statement and Is there anything else I should be doing.

Many Thanks

It isnt paid with the mortgage. One of the reasons MPPI has far fewer successful complaints is that it is a standalone product that is usually paid, when set up correctly, via a direct debit from your current account.

Your assumption that all mortgages at the time would come with PPI is wrong.

  • I've just received the same letter from Nationwide advising that they don't have any records of my insurance policy and are closing the flie.
I took out mortgage protection with them in 1998 with my new mortgage and still have the mortgage and my policy is still being paid.
Only thing I can see that has happened is that Legal and General have taken over the business of Nationwide Life in May 2009. But you would still think they have records of the original policy?
Alan, what's the latest situation with you?

Did you buy the insurance through Nationwide?
If you did, did you buy it at the same time as the mortgage or later?

Details will be limited on a 1998 sale as it is 7 years prior to regulation. However, if you provide them a copy of what you have (assuming you bought it via them) then they can find it.

  • Hello Dunstonh,
    Thanks for your reply.
I did buy the policy at the same time as the Mortgage.
And I have got the policy details so I'll send a copyto them.
What surprised me was how abrupt Nationwide were in their letter. I thought they would have explained that their records were limited and just asked for more information, rather than say that they're were closing the file.
Anyway, I'll send the documents and see what they say then.
    Thanks again.

If it were Nationwide Life then its not a PPI policy.

Good spot Roonaldo. That would explain why they havent found the PPI. It is because it isnt PPI.

PPI is issue by general insurance companies. Not life assurance companies. So, this policy wont be a PPI. Probably a life assurance policy (or critical illness cover policy). It also explains the response. It isn't abrubt. it is factual. It isnt their data that is limited but the fact you dont have the product you are complaining about.

  • Thanks all for your comments. I now understand the situation with MPPI as opposed to PPI.
