Hello
Currently use Vista Home Premium (was already installed on my laptop) & 02 are my ISP. Just seen a banner headline on my Gmail stating that support is being withdran from Vista & that i will have to change to Windows8 or Google Chrome. I have also had an e-mail from 02 giving very complicated instructions on how to get 02 b/band to work with Windows8 (i am technophobic).
If i do move to a new browser how do i copy my favourites/bookmarks & favourites bar to a new broser?
Also can you have more than one browser on the same computer.
Can anyone recommend a good east to use/instal browser.
Thanks
Why cant Microsoft leave things alone!

Vista is an operating system not a browser. You have no reason to give up Vista unless you want to. If you did you would move to Windows 7 or in due course Windows 8.
You can use whatever browser you want (Internet Explorer, Firefox,Chrome). You can have more than one browser on a machine and indeed two is quite a good idea.
Your new browser if you get one can import your favorites from your old browser.
Microsoft can be blamed for lots of things but on this occasion I don't think they have done anything wrong.0 -
I run Internet Explorer and Firefox. Ive been known to download Opera too when ive needed a third. I must admit, i like Opera. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

My old laptop is running on Windows XP (ie the one before Vista) and I have no problems using Firefox and Internet Explorer as web browsers.
You don't say which browser you are using at present but my favourite is Firefox.
Whatever you choose to use (and I can't see why you even need to change) then the browser will give you the opportunity to copy over your existing favourites/bookmarks and also ask if you want to make it the default browser.
If you want to you can run two or more different browsers at the same time.0 -
Thanks very much, just shows how thick i am.
Never mind someone has just given my their old HTC Legend phone with the instructions & i can just about turn it on. Now where's that Spinning Jenny.0 -
The problem is that Google have decided that they can't be bothered to support "old" versions of Internet Explorer, even when you've got the latest version supported by your operating system.
Personally, I use Firefox. It's pretty easy to install. See http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/fx/#desktop
They are plugging Chrome because it comes from Google. Personally, I don't trust a browser from the World's biggest advertising company. If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -
There is also Pale Moon which is based upon Firefox but is optimized ie faster for more recent PC's. Support for old PC's has been dropped entirely. It comes down to the instructions that it is programmed to use, which can do things faster. Older systems don't have some of the newer CPU instructions.
It's pretty good except for the name.0 -
Try Opera !
In fact, try as many as you want. I use Opera as my default, but have Firefox/IE on the PC as well for the few sites that don't work with Opera - like Microsoft.0 -

I use Pale Moon on my netbook PC. It's really just Firefox, optimised for Windows PCs, and with some of the lesser used stuff removed.
It works fine for me, and all the usual Firefox plug-ins still work.If it sticks, force it.
