Getting credit card but giving them spouse bank account?

in Credit cards
It sounds ridiculous but my friend boasts that he has a credit card in his name but gave them his wife's bank account number during online application (with her permission of course just for the sake of it) and the application still passed and now he has the credt card and direct debit payment is setup on her account.
note that bank acc is not a joint acc. Neither is the credit card.
I mean there are many security issues here. How did they even pass it? Or are these banks just interested in getting paid propmtly and are only worried about you setting up a direct debit. Surely, the bank account would be missing from his credit report!!

what's the issue?
unless he broke the T&Cs of the a/c why is there an issue?0 -
well for starters, anyone could get a cc and give someone else's bank acc info without their permission?? (though the other person will find out once a direct debit payment is taken but still)0

what facts? just had a conversation with a mate and the conversation started when he said that there was a fraudulant transaction on his credit card and he got a telling off from the wifey even though he didnt buy anything!
I dont know more or have personal experience and not sure whether he is telling the truth (but why wouldnt he?). Anyways, My own credit card has my own bank account connected to it so i thought this wasnt possible. If this is true, thought this was ridiculous and posted here to inform others.0 -
The Direct Debit bank account nominated for the credit card is probably not a key security check for the bank.
Your friend would have been identity and credit checked before issuing the card ( this would not necessarily involve looking at the nominated bank account)
As you said, if he had used an unauthorised bank account this would have been spotted when the first payment was taken - and as the card is in his name the bank would know who to chase and/or put a fraud marker against his name ruling out further credit anywhere.0 -
there arew two basic issues
1. do the T&Cs of the CC require the holder to provide their own bank a/c details
2. if the CC T&Cs don't require the holder's own bank details then the issue is does he have the permission of the other person to use their a/c?
the first maybe or may not be considered fraud but it's very likely the CC company would cancel the card
the second situation is clearly fraud.
obivously peoples sort code and a/c details are not secret as they are printed on cheques and debit cards so any problems would have to be sorted out after the event.0
