hi guys,
we dont post on here alot, but do need some advice or find out what other people have been told.
we are free from our phone and BB contract and read on here about the talk talk deal where you can pay line rental upfront then get a discounted package for 9 months. also you will get £30 setup fee refunded and £50 love to shop vouchers making it £4 a month or there abouts........
so i try to sign up to talk talk online and then the line checker says i need a new line installation at £50 and as per the t&c's i wont get my £50 voucher.
so i rang talk talk sales line and they have said i new a new line because quote " im on a cable line not a copper line" im not being funny but ive got a fully active line at the moment and they are insisting on me paying £50 for a new install by a bt openreach tech.....
is it me or does this just seem to be a good marketing scam by offering you a deal then telling you, you need a new line.....
a new line to me is when you move into a new house or you have cable fitted (fiber) like virgin......
we are not in a cable are and live out in the sticks so i know that the line ive had for the past 10 years hasnt been changed

Who is your provider at present? VM is the only cable provider, if you are on VM cable then you will indeed need a new BT based line to get the ADSL based TT service.
But it is more likely that you are already on an LLU service which cannot be transferred directly from one LLU to another LLU. It's normally necessary to take your line back to BT first to do that.
The way around it is for TT to provision a new line and then port your old number over, which is I think what they are proposing. However this costs them, and they're asking you to contribute. You can either agree, or negotiate with them to pay the whole cost themselves.
If you should want to leave TT in the future you'll have the same issue again though. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
im currently with sky.... who took over from bt 5 months ago....... escaping sky on the ground there line rental it going up more than 10%0

So if it's a Sky LLU service (not Sky Connect, which is just a resold BT Wholesale product), then my theory is correct.
The script monkeys at TT wouldn't know cable from ADSL...
So if yo want to go to TT direct, this is the only method. Otherwise you'll have to take your line back to BT on a return to donor. This is free, but requires a 12m line rental contract.
£50 for a new line provisoin is a bargain, as BT will charge £130 without a discount.
However, going from one of the best rated ISP's to one of the worst is not a great idea-why not just negotiate a better rate with Sky if you are OOC?No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
is talk talk really that bad...... sky havent given us a steady connection since we took it out... our fastest speed is 1.2mbps0
-
Suggest you do a forum search on here then...
If your line can only support 1.2MBps, then switching ISP's will not make any difference to that. What speed did TT quote you?No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
If that's your experience of Talk Talk so far, do you really want more of it, and pay for it?
You got your free sample of their service, do you think it'll be any different if you sign up?0 -
I would agree on TT service, but the transfer issue is not any fault of TT, it's the existing LLU transfer system. No free lunch, and no free laptop0
