I think you were right to object. I have a question though, they were obviously hoping that the whole issue would go away if they just left it very late and put you under pressure - which implies to me they may be a little sneaky.

So let's say they move in and put the caravan there anyway. How would you go about enforcing the covenant, who do you go to? civil courts? planners? I wouldn't know where to begin myself, especially given that you weren't even aware of the existance of the covenant prior to this, where do you find the documents that to relate to it?

The restrictive covenant will show up on the land registry records - which you can easily get a copy of (I think there's a charge of £2 for this, but someone else might know for certain), and you can order it over the internet for downloading as a PDF file. Not sure about who you would contact about enforcing it though, sorry.

    Petrol can & match?

Seriously though, I think it will require taking them to court. The best corse of action would probably be, give them a couple of weeks to get sorted then have a quite word, then a letter, then a solicitors letter, then court.

Secure caravan parking is fairly cheap and I would guess that the covenant allows them to have the caravan on the land for a day or two before their holiday and a day or two after
