Post/pole sticking up obstructing driveway...

There is a post/pole type thing at the bottom of my driveway which obstructs the way that we can get cars into the drive.
Technically, my driveway is big enough for 3 cars, but because we have to park sideways to avoid the pole, it can only fit two.
I have decided to look into this as if I come to sell the house, along with my garage, there would be space for 4 cars which I think would be a good selling point.
There are wires going into the pole so I am assuming it is active for something. The letters PO are on the box.
Any ideas what this could be and how I can go about getting it removed?
Thanks

Any chance of a photo?
With PO on it,it sounds like something to do with BT.
If it is owned by BT and still live, they like to charge a good wack to move anything!Lose is to not win......Loose is not tight......get it right!0 -
Yeh I will try to upload a photo later.
Can/should they be charging for something that is on my property? :-/

Is it actually on your property or is it in the pavement and just restricting access?
If it is on your property then BT almost certainly have been granted a 'wayleave' to put their equipment there. This pemission could have been granted years ago by any previous owners.
The fact it is stamped with PO means it was put in at the latest in 1980!Lose is to not win......Loose is not tight......get it right!0 -
pics would be good showing where it isI'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

Thanks all.
It's a bit dark now but I will try get pics tomorrow to post.
It is definitely on my driveway and not on the pavement - i.e the brickwork of my driveway has been done 'around' the post if you know what I mean.
What does a wayleave mean? It is strange because beyond where the post is, the kerb isn't dipped - it only starts to dip afterwards.

OK, here's a quick photo from Google, hopefully it shows clear enough to tell what I mean...

i think BT is your first point of call i can't really see why that can't be altered so it goes inside the ground box, but they will be the best people to speak toI'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

LoL - there was me imagining a telegraph pole in your garden and that would take some shifting. It looks like a fibre optic connection box. If so probably put in when they were laying the original fibre around the place for future connection. When it was installed it was probably hidden in a hedge or undergrowth. Having the front garden converted to paving has exposed it somewhat. Its probably redundant but you'll have to speak to BT as already advised.

Its called a jointing post.
The PO used to use these when they built estates without ductwork, they used to dig the trench, throw in the cable and run them to these posts for jointing.
If you are lucky you might find the one in your property is dead and no longer in use.
A wayleave is permission. The PO would asked the owner,or the developer (as it could have been put in whilst the estate/houses were built) and possibly even paid to put it there.
You are in a bit of a catch 22 now with what i am about to suggest!
You could ask BT to come and take a look at it,to see if they would move or remove it FOC........but
my next suggestion is drive over it/flatten TOWARDS the house.
Phone up BT and tell them someone has damaged it whilst you were out.
The problem is if you contact them first, get no joy and then 'accidentely' damage it,they might put 2 and 2 together!
Bit naughty i know:eek::o
