Noisy pipes with new boiler

Hi, i've just had a new combi-boiler installed and its seems to be working ok but i have one problem. Whenever the boiler fires up, there is a clanking sound every sec for a few minutes and then it get better but still makes a noise around every 5 seconds until the desired temperature is reached and then the boiler goes off and it's ok.
The engineer said that this is normal and there was nothing he could do as it was the old pipes that were making the noise. I'm not sure this is true as i never noticed the noises when the old boiler was still here. The new boiler was re-routed so perhaps its the new copper piping. So what i'm trying to ask is if these sort of noises are acceptable with a new boiler?
Any help would be appreciated, thank you.

Sounds like pipes binding on timber and he's probably correct in that case. New boiler = better heat transfer = pipes creak and groan more noticeably than before as the rate of expansion is quicker than before.
