The new rules regarding social tenants come into force in April next year.

Council tenants will be affected also but in a different way, it's being dubbed the 'bedroom tax' even though it's not a tax but a charge for under occupancy which can be avoided by moving to a smaller residence or by taking in a lodger to make up the shortfall

Or in a lot of cases, moving to the same size property in the private sector, thereby not being taxed for any spare rooms.

Not really, if a couple moved from a 3 bed council house to a 3 bed private rental they wouldnt get the 3 bed rate for that property (if on benefits)

I rent a 3 bed house privately and receive the LHA for a 2 bed house. The room isnt spare tho - one has my 14 years old daughter and the other room my 2 year old daughter. And i have a bedroom. I didnt like the idea of hem sharing so make up the shortfall (£26 a week) up myself
