Salmon- Taste's nice at a good price?

Hi, can anyone help? Im looking for salmon, I need 3 pieces for my family per meal.
I do not want to spend a fortune as Im on a budget.

I bought frozen salmon from Ald* and either I cooked them too long or they are not good. I used to buy fresh salmon and never like the taste of tinned.

Thanks in advance

  • I can't remember the price but ASDA in the chilled fish section is nice, I think £8 for 6 individually wrapped.. Not the cheapest but the quality is still there. Obviously something you'd have maybe once a week rather than every day

  • If you have a co-op near you they have chilled salmon on offer at half price from £8.00 pounds down to £4.00 for 4 fillets.:)
  • Thank You! I want to freeze what I can for the month's meals if possible.

I have lots near me :)

    Thank You!
  • Tesco are currently selling a whole side of salmon on their fish counter for £8 per kilo, you'd probably get 8 or 9 portions out of a kilo, so well worth it.

I bought 2 huge salmon sides from Tesco last night. They were £8 per kilo and 50% off so they were both well less than £5. I divide them into portions then put them on a plastic tray in the freezer so they freeze individually. Voila. Salmon takes very little cooking and is very easy to over-cook but makes a tasty healthy meal with salad and new potatoes or with other veg.

If you want good salmon then avoid Keta. If you have eaten dull, flavourless salmon then the chances are that it was Keta salmon. Even though it is wild and not farmed, it never seems worth eating.
  • Thank You all for your replies!!

I cooked another piece of the frozen salmon and defiantly did not overcook and still tasted horrible and dry!

I will head to tesco tomorrow! amazing price :)

    Tesco,
likely farmed salmon (makes it cheap)
    with added antibiotic.
Their mince is probably with added water and fat.

Don't try to take it back,
or their tame 'public' police will beat you with batons , < click here
handcuff you face down on the floor in front of customers and staff,
physically remove your glasses and spray you directly into your eyes with cs gas.

Aldi sells salmon that states 'Wild' ,
and tastes good for me. :)
Their Aberdeen Angus beef mince is not full of fat and water . :T
And have always been good for returns with me. :)
  • Hi,

i get Asda frozen ones, a pack of 4 for £3. I poach them and we all think they taste nice. :)
