Latest Opera Browser Released (better than Firefox)

Options
Most regular PC users will be aware of the Opera browser, the latest is now out of Beta with a super new feature known as Speed Dial.

Webpages seem to load quicker in Opera but as I say the Speed Dial feature is one I really like and will probably drag me from Firefox, for now at least.

In short when loading a new tab it displays up to nine small screen versions of webpages of your choosing, the obvious selection are the sites you visit most often. In addition if you just enter the number assigned to your speed dial in the address bar it takes you straight there.

I'll let Opera explain it better, if you fancy trying it the download link is available below too.

If only roboform would be supported, one thing I do hate about firefox is the amount of ram it uses.

Opera has its own form filler, tools - preferences - wand

Fill in your details and press the wand icon on pages which need them.

    Hi

Thanks for the tip, Opera is now running as my default browser, I am very impressed, the "speed dial" function is very useful. I too will ditch Firefox for the time-being.

I really like both opera & firefox. I don't care that firefox uses more ram as i've got loads.I do find myself using opera more often, as i just like it. The browser i can't get used to & i just don't like is ie7

If you are up for trying browsers then try the 'off by one' browser. It is incredibly quick, has tabbed browsing & only a few kb in size & free

You can easily reduce the amount of memory Firefox uses when it is minimized.

Still uses lots when you're actually using it though, but it is helpful when it's sat in the background doing nothing. No idea why this isn't the default setting.

I used to run Opera but reverted back to Firefox as I found quite a few sites that were not compatible with Opera. Is the new version any better for compatibility?

I think the problem is more down to the sites not being compatible with HTML and XHTML. If anything Opera is even more HTML compliant as can be seen from it passing the acid2 test (which both firefox and IE fail) so I doubt much has changed in the way of compatibility unless website builders have cleaned up their code

I like Opera on both PC and Mac, it looks tidy and works well.

The only thing that keeps me using FireFox is extensions, if only some other browser supported them that was not mozilla based then I would go for it right away.

I never understood the whole widget thing in Opera, just running separate apps on your desktop makes no sense. They should of made them integrated.
