Oven shelves cleaner?

Which oven cleaner is scent free and best for cleaning the shelves in an oven? BTW this is not for me & I don't know what the oven shelves are made from (i.e. stainless steel, chrome effect).

I have always sworn by Oven Pride - you put the oven shelves inside the (supplied) heavy duty ziplock bag and add a caustic cleaning solution. After a few hours the grime will rinse off leaving the shelves looking like new. Oven pride is normally about £4 in supermarkets but I saw it for £2.99 last week in Poundstretchers. There is a very similar product called Doctor Magic oven cleaner available in B&M bargains...

I can't remember either product having a particular scent, but I normally leave the bag out in the garden while the shelves are soaking anyway.

OvenMate http://www.lakeland.co.uk/4972/Oven-Mate-Cleaning-Gel This is brilliant - no smell, yet really powerful - wouldn't even bother trying anything else now.

I find Brillo Pads do the trick.

    I don't like stinky cleaners.
  • Stick them in the bath, chuck in a scoop-full of Persil washing powder (or whatever your favourite is), soak for an hour and you will be able to wipe the gunk off with a J-cloth. No need for expensive oven cleaners.
