HP laptop NC6400 software query.

[HP NC6400 - XP SP2]
I have a 'Golden Shield' icon in the System Tray which reports message:
"Embedded Security - Not initialized. Credential Manager - User logged off."
Anyone have the same setup and know what this software does?
As far as I know my laptop does not make use of this software (As the above message would suggest).
What do I need to do to remove it?
