Marks and Spencer PPI - Settlement?

Not sure what to do here - I made a phone call direct to M&S PPI line re being mis sold. I initially had a charge card from 1991, which automatically changed to a charge card to present day.
I have the paperwork from 1991 and the PPI box is ticked. It says 'We strongly recommend you take this cover by ticking this box'. I do recall I was advised to too.
Anyhow, They have replied by saying that they do not accept the allegations, but have offered me a goodwill gesture of an ex gratia payment - £288.66 which will return the protection premiums that have been paid since the account was transferred from a chargecard to a credit card.
Is this offer acceptable? I have no idea - Please could someone help before I reply.
Many thanks

You've made what amounts to a "hearsay" complaint, a type which usually meet with total failure I'm afraid. This "goodwill" offer is likely the best you can expect. They have replied by saying that they do not accept the allegations, but have offered me a goodwill gesture of an ex gratia payment - £288.66
