Anyone heard ot this?

Have just been speaking to RBS regarding financial difficulty caused by bank charges of £24 taken off my account today. An online advisor gave me a number to call and the lady I spoke to proceeded to ask questions about my financial circumstances - turns out this was all leading to RBS giving me a loan of £24 to be repaid monthly - after picking my jaw up off the floor I thanked her for not helping me and hung up. Is it just me or does anyone else think this is a step too far.

Well, they are trying to help you because you called them to say you are in hardship. You haven't given enough details for anyone here to sensibly comment on it. What was the £24 for? Do you have a history of getting charged? Do you live in an arranged overdraft, and if so for how long? Do regular monthly/weekly payments go into your account?

So this loan ? Is it just a case of they have increased your O/D by that amount and will reduce it over a period ?
If it is, then this is standard procedure, so you do not incur further charges.
    It is not a loan.....

But as per innovate. Not enough info.

Are they giving you a loan to pay the charges now and pay them over a longer period? If so, it may be better than just wiping the charges, which might be seen as no incentive to correct the behaviour leading to charges in the first place.

I think they were probably looking at a loan to repay whatever you owe them, not the charges.
  • That seems quite generous. Why are you moaning?

A loan for £24?? To be paid monthly - £1 per month, or possibly an eye-watering £2 per month???

Has it crossed your mind that you had financial difficulties before the bank charge was applied?
