I learned from this site you can freeze bananas - just peel them and put them in a freezer bag - they don't go black and can be used in purees, cakes or as banana popsicles.

I've also frozen little packs of micro rice from Asda (the kind you get in their own takeaway section) - they were selling little bags of pilau for 10p - just like the rice fusions.

  • good tip for freezing cold meats is to cut slices and put baking/greeproof paper between slices in tub and then you can just take out what you want

eggs you can freeze crack in to freezer bag and just put in freezer also if you need them separate when you want them then make sure you do this before you freeze

also the food in reduced section that says do not freeze i do and am still here to tell the tale
also yogurts freeze and defrost by lunchtime (gr8t for packed lunches as i see these reduced daily to pennys

With mushrooms, get some produce bags when you in the shop. When you go home, cut them up into medium sized pieces and stick them in bags. I do enough to cover a meal in each bag (a box of basics mushrooms does 4-5 meals). Freezing mushrooms is ok if you are throwing them into a spag bol, casserole etc and not in a salad. You don't need to defrost them as the heat from the cooking heats them through.

Same is true for peppers. I buy them when on offer/reduced slice them up and 'open' freeze them on a baking tray/big plate then tip them into a bag.

Unless you're freezing veg rather than waste it make sure it is cost effective to buy it fresh rather than already frozen. I buy frozen, sliced leeks (£1 per kg in Farmfoods) and when you think of the work/wastage of buying fresh you'd be hard pressed to freeze yourself any cheaper unless it was a very good reduction.
  • I had 10 boxes of Mr Kiplings bakewell slices from Mr T's at 10p a box and froze the lot, take them out in the morning within an hr they are ready to eat :) As far as items that say not suitable for freezing, ALWAYS READ THE LABEL I noticed that it was not suitable to be frozen as it came in frozen if it tells u this its been frozen prior to u viewing it do not re-freeze it or u will be ill

I bought a tray of 12 iced donuts from asda for 20p. Gave my neighbours some and froze the rest individually in bags. Stayed really fresh. When I mentioned this at the reduced counter to someone the baker pointed out that tesco's donuts have already been froze. Surely this doesn't matter if they have then been cooked. By the way no dodgy tummies from the remaining tray of donuts. Will certainly do it again!

I often buy hummus when reduced and freeze to add to soups and stews - it gives extra protein and interesting addition to flavour.

If your doughnuts are frozen dough then Tesco cook them u are freezing cooked food which is perfectly safe. Just re-read my post and can see its not clear in my post I am referring to un-cooked meat. Morrisons do a meal for two such as a stir fry and it contains enough for u to cook for 2 but has come in frozen so therefore that meat (un-cooked) has been frozen once and can not be re-frozen and it states this on the packaging :)

We always have flippin hummus in the reduced at my work! I remember your tip for adding to soups. Plus if you get a flavoured one like lemon and coriander, it will go with leek and potato etc.

There's not enough water in doughnuts for bacteria to grow - likewise with the jam/iced filling, it's too sugary for them too. So you shouldn't get a dodgy tummy at all.
