EDF are we on the best tariff
Hi all, just a query if you can help. I'm currently on a standard variable rate with EDF and pay £96 a month for both gas and elec. after looking on the comparison site I appear to be on a really good deal. My query is to fix or not? Any help great fully accepted

I don't think so, as standard tariff is always any supplier's most expensive tariff! Are you using proper data on the comp site, i.e. anual kWh usage (not monthly DD figures)?
On EDF, Blue May 2014 is about the best bet at present. I'm afraid the cheap fixes are long gone now.
No one can tell you whether to fix or not, only you know if you need the assurance, and are prepare to pay a premium to fix.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

As standard rates go you are on a good standard rate but your logic is flawed, since your standard rate is variable and (probably) soon to be increased.
What the comparison should have showed you is that the Edf Blue May 2014 fix is approx 1% more expensive than your current variable standard rate but fixed for 2 winters. And no early termination charges.
That IMO is a no-brainer. Get on it before it goes. Like today.0 -

If you've been with EDF at least a year, you will probably have an annual statement at the end of your latest bill. This shows what your actual usage in kWh per utility was for the previous 12 months. It also shows forecasted usage, probably inflated by a largely unfathomable amount. However, unless your lifestyle has changed, consider the previous year's usage to be a fair indication what you will use in the coming year. Put that value (in kWh) into the comparison sites.
EDF are renown for increasing direct debit amounts to more than 1/12 of your annual cost, so if it is their calculation that has set yours at £96, it may be more than you need to pay.
See what their fixed tariff comes out at on the comparison sites and consider switching to that. It may not increase your cost much, could well save you money in the long run, and if better offers come along, you can leave with no penalty.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards.
