Annoying registration pop-up

Options
I recently bought a new laptop - Compaq C504EU with Vista. Every time I switch it on I get a pop-up inviting me to register my PC to maximise my ownership and support experience. I then get the choice to register now, later, or never.

I've selected all 3 options at various points in the past but it still keeps popping up and driving me crazy. How can I get rid of it for good? Have had a look through computer but can't see anything obvious.

Have a look in Start=>All programs=> Start up

If it is on there, Right click it and select Delete.

    Or...

    Windows key + R

    Type MSCONFIG

    Startup Tab

Uncheck the entry if it is there. Reboot.
  • Hmm, it's not in either of those places. Does that mean it actually is uninstalled then? If so, why is it still on the Add/Remove Program list and in my Games folder?

If its in the Add/Remove list, why not remove it?

I dont really understand why it would be in a Games folder though.

Is it a COMPAQ program which is trying to open?

Or is it asking you to activate Vista?
  • God ignore that last post of mine - was typing another question about a game issue and got totally confused what I was replying to. Give me a min to just go back to the start and re-read :o
  • Right, I'm back with the thread now, sorry about that! Can't see anything in either of those two places to do with Compaq Registration.

It's a Compaq program, if I click on the Register Now button it takes me to a Compaq form to fill in my details and send to them. I then get a Congratulations, you've set-up a personalised service message, but within 30mins the pop-up will re-appear.

    Am I making any sense?

So its a pop up reminder?

I thought it only appeared when you started your PC, hence looking in the Startup locations.

Once you have run it, I assume you have rebooted but it continues to appear.

I dont have experience of that particular problem but you could run this:

    http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/utilities/Autoruns.mspx

This will list pretty much everything configured to start or scheduled to run on your PC.

Just right click the entry and delete it.

I dont like the sound of a Personalised Service message. I get hints of spam, even if it IS compaq.
