I used to use Norton (yes, I know!), but when the subscription expired I removed it and installed AVG.
I have had no problems with installing, updating or getting the new version (7.5) to install automatically. I just went for the next virus database update and it did it automatically.
I have heard rumours that McAfee is not as good as the hype, but couldn't say one way or the other.:wall: Flagellation, necrophilia and bestiality - Am I flogging a dead horse? :wall:
Any posts are my opinion and only that. Please read at your own risk.0 -
I also got rid of Norton and installed AVG and Kerio, plus spybot and ad-aware, all free. I update them regularly and my lappy runs sweet and easy.
I also run Trojan Hunter, but I'm still undecided as to whether it adds anything substantial to my security set up.Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0 -
It is hard enough removing Mcfee from your system, but harder still to stop them direct debiting my Paypal account, six months after cancelling because I am now living in New Zealand and they just wont respond!0

Cyberstar, I bought my PC about 18 mths ago with Mcafee installed, every time I switch on it asks me to purchase the 'new' addition etc. I just click 'tell me later' to get rid of reminder and then use Mcafee as normal? perhaps I'm lucky? Hope this helps a little. Good luck, omnipeta.0

I'm pretty sure Cyberstar has resolved it by now. It's well over a year ago."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

It sounds like your McAfee has expired and you are no longer getting updates to the virus definitions and are therefore not protected.
:doh: Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -

It's a bit like getting reminders about your car insurance and throwing them in the bin."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

My McAfee runs out today. I ve alreeady uninstalled it though for AVG8. I belive its the subscririon that runs out. Subsription ends they stop sending you updates then McAfee becomes pretty much useless.
All I did was Download AVG8. Tried to instal it just to see if it would work. The first time it said the download was corrupt. So im glad I checked first. After downloading again it worked fine, getting to the screen that say there is already anti-virus software installed. So I quit, diconnected from the internet (pulled the cable out) uninstalled McAfee installed AVG8 and it was done.
As ive said somewhere else in the forum, the only difference I can see is that AVG8 is free.0 -
