I do not think he understood you today, it is a new enquiry as you are currently not on the deeds/mortgage.

May be better of without him/her if they did not realise this.

Halifax is still a good option - good luck tomorrow

OP firstly I am sorry for your loss. A dreadful situation for you and your daughter to find yourselves in.

Your broker is best avoided if they are unsure if a remortgage or purchase. In simple terms you cannot remortgage what you don't own.

Picked up in a post that your partner was a postman. Did he have any life cover through work? Would be usual for some kind of cover with a big organisation.

If so this may well be sufficient to clear the motgage. You would need to speak to somebody suitably qualified but although the benefit would be your daughter's you may be able to find a way to secure the home.

I wish you all the luck in the world with your quest. Hope you get the result you deserve.

Exactly what I thought when I read that, which is why I explained that its a straight pch (technically) from his estate as she isn't the legal owner.

Whats appears to have thrown him (?) is that she already lives there ... he/she sounds very young/inexperienced or had possibly had too many wine gums ! :D

Great point from GMS. Post Office worker I had previously had death in service. You need to check with his employer.

Back to mortgages, good luck tomorrow...

  • On the contrary he is a highly respected adviser in the area with long standing! Now I'm just worried that he did know the situation but didn't want to be the one who let me down so just fobbed me off to Halifax to do it! He said that as Halifax were involved with the previous mortgage that was in my partners name it would not be a brand new referral as it's sort of an existing account...well it is for all intense and purposes. He said he only gets the commission if its a brand new referral with now previous history. My partner was on a 10 year fixed rate and was 4 years into it. Ohhh I don't know....

  • Death in service....yep that's the 60k! I got 67k but kept the 7 back for repairs and funeral etc Argh I hate even typing that word!

Ok - sorry you have already received and I did not realise.

Can you please confirm your exact benefits you receive?

Aware you have not been self employed long enough to count.

  • Indeed Dave...I have £6548.64 working and child tax credit and £3991.32 (made up of £1357.68 for my daughter obviously into my account) and £974.40 child benefit that totals to £11514.36.

Thank Dave you are a total star! I have no nails left!

I really hope it works out for you. If things don't go well tomorrow I suggest you contact the charity Shelter. They are experts at helping people stay in their homes.
