Help - I bid 40p but the bid is showing at £40

I bid on an item this evening with three hours left at the starting bid of 40p. I had no intention of upping the bid. However when I checked my account said I was the highest bidder of £40. EBAY can't help because there is less than an hour left of the auction. I've emailed the seller explaining the position. Do I really have to pay as a pensioner I'd find it very hard to find £40.

Oh dear, as you bid so late you only had an hour to retract the bid and put in the correct one- the perils of a misplaces decimal point.
You can always ask the seller to cancel if you win, they may or may not agree- However it will only reach £40 if other bidders join in with the bidding, so it might not go anywhere near that high.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. For you to have wanted to place your highest bid of 40p the item must have been lower than that to begin with which is rather suprising with only 3 hours to go.retiredandskint wrote: »I bid on an item this evening with three hours left at the starting bid of 40p. 40p as a high bid is also a very small amount. It really wasnt worth more than that?
Anyway, it is up to the seller as to what they will do about it. If they look at the bidding activity and come to a conclusion that you bid £40 after it had already gone past 40p then they may not quite belive you.
Or, they may be understanding.
However, be prepared for the seller to open a Non Paying Bidder dispute as they may not offer you the chance to cancel.0 -
I was the first bidder, it's only some embelishments to go on cards hence the low start.0

I am sure that the seller will be happy to cancel that :-)retiredandskint wrote: »I was the first bidder, it's only some embelishments to go on cards hence the low start.0 -
I've not heard back from the seller but the final bid was £13.50. I'd also bid and won another item from the same seller for a similar thiing for 60p.0

Good news the seller agreed to cancel the sale.0

possibly need to watch your typing and be careful with the decimal point: £0.40 V's £40.000
