I have an old white tv unit from ikea, I think it must be mdf or similar. If I chop it up do you think it would be ok to burn it on my fire? Thanks

No. MDF is full of pretty nasty chemicals (and it takes a lot to make me say that!). It's one of the substances that doesn't belong on a domestic fire.
