Dropping from full time to part time at uni - advice sought

Hi - I've no idea whether anyone can help me here but I thought I'd try asking. I'm a 3rd year mature student and this whole semester has been a nightmare for me. I've an appointment with my student advisor to discuss what options are available for me, but one which a friend told me about is to drop from full time to part time.

How does this work - do I do my degree over 5 years instead of 4, and how does the funding change - I'm in Scotland and SAAS are only dealing with emails from August so the chances of them even answering the phone if I try calling them are slim.

I get all my fees paid for me, as I'm in Scotland, get the full student loan and also a Loan Person's Bursary (that's probably not the correct name of it) of £1000 a year.

Any help would be gratefully received before I have my meeting tomorrow. Thanks.
