Help! Rads upstairs are warm even thought heating off

Hi

Can anyone help with this?

Just noticed that my rads upstairs are all fairly warm even though central heating has been off for several hours. One rad in particular seems the hottest and it's the one furthest away from boiler.

Anyone got any ideas before I try and get hold of a plumber?

Thanks

  • It seems to be even my rad in the hallway is also lukewarm as well. It's a vialaint boiler which is about 6years old but regular serviced ( sorry about spelling)

Check operation (or not) of your motorised valve(s). Oh and its Vaillant. :D

    I've been Money Tipped!
If your hot water is on when the readiators are hot, then it's probably the valve the others mentioned. It's easily replaced if you're a bit handy. If not, it shouldn't cost a lot for a friendly local plumber to sort.

It's fairly easy to spot if your zone valve isn't functioning as expected. Turn off the heating. Find the little manual lever on the side of the zone valve motor head. Give it a push home, it should push back at you fairly consistently but should still travel under pressure. When you let go it should go back to where it started.

Turn the boiler back on and fire up the DHW and CH. Do the same as before and it should slide across fairly easily with little resistance until it clicks home, it should stay put this time when you let go. Turn the DHW and CH off again and it should click back to it's original position. If it doesn't, it has died a death. Get down to a local merchant and just replace the motor head. Although the cost between the full unit and just the motor head is neglible, it will save a little work.
  • Thanks for all the advice. I am at work at mo but will have ago tomorrow and see if i can get it sorted.

    Thanks again
  • Hi.

You might have a combi, or not. Do you know what you have?

It is quite significant in regard to the location and type of divertor.;)

  • Yes, it is a combi boiler as that was going to be my next question, where abouts is this valve thingy!??
