Car Insurance Excess Cover

My husband has a lease car and he is being tupied to a new firm. He can keep the car for now but the insurance has changed and his new excess is £500 (rather than £100 previously). We would like to insure against this excess using one of the policies there are around - eg. Insure4excess. However, they tell me they can only cover if you have your own insurance. Does anyone know whether this will be the same with all companies who insure against motor insurance excess? Many thanks.

Not something I have looked into in detail but a quick google does show company car excess insurance but the wording of the website suggests it is for the company to buy rather than the individual company car drivers however it would probably be worth a quick phone call to the providers to see if that is the case or not.

Part of the problem is potentially that technically under the terms of the insurance it is the company that is liable directly for the excess with the employee via their contract with their employer being liable to reimburse the employer for it. So in that case the employee doesnt technically pay the excess - though I imagine in smaller companies the practicalities are that the employee just pays the garage the excess to cut the employer out the loop
